Foods which are rich in fiber aren’t only good for managing type 2 diabetes, they also help to improve the overall health condition by ensuring proper digestion, lowering the bad cholesterol and also by preventing constipation.

So how can fiber help with diabetes? Well, fiber maintains the blood sugar level very well and also produces sufficient amount of insulin. Fruits, vegetables, oatmeal, lentil, nuts, and beans are rich in fiber. Foods which are high in soluble fiber such as oatmeal, strawberries, blueberries, dried peas slow down the digestion process which helps the release of insulin and reduces the amount of blood sugar which is very helpful in controlling diabetes. So if you want to control your diabetes through diet, you should keep a fair amount of fiber in your daily meal.

Almonds

Studies have proven that consuming a fair amount of almonds daily can reduce LDL (the bad cholesterols) and also can improve the insulin sensitivity.

Those who have a normal level of blood sugar should regularly consume almonds as they reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes and heart diseases. Not only almonds, other great nuts such as cashews, walnuts, pecans, pistachios and Brazilian nuts are also very good for health. You can consume them with breakfast cereal, salads, yogurts, brown rice. You can also just have a handful of them as a snack. But always take the unsalted version of these and don’t eat too much of them as they can add up to your calorie so easily.

The Flaxseed

You can have 1 or 2 table spoons of ground flax seeds daily. But don’t consume too much of these. You can add them to your non-fat yogurt, smoothies, cereals, mashed potatoes and baked foods. But remember, flaxseeds are not recommended during pregnancy.
